Her professional journey led her to serve at the renowned National Naval Medical Center (presently Walter Reed) in Bethesda, Maryland, where she cared for countless patients and collaborated with some of the best minds in healthcare. Her passion for nurturing future nurses eventually brought her to the classroom, where she is now a clinical professor at UT Health School of Nursing at San Antonio, Texas, guiding students with the knowledge and empathy that have defined her own career.
Ms. Wheeler is also a proud member of the American Nurses Association, reflecting her commitment to advancing nursing practice and maintaining the highest professional standards.
In addition to her impactful clinical and educational roles, Beverly Wheeler has ventured into authorship, penning a remarkable book titled "Nursing is Caring." This unique work is a compilation of over 80 heartfelt essays written by her students in response to the poignant question: “Which patient experience confirmed for you that you knew you were meant to be a nurse?” The book captures the essence of nursing, illustrating the profound relationships and moments that define the profession.
Demonstrating her dedication to supporting future nurses, Ms. Wheeler has committed all proceeds from the book to the university’s nursing scholarship fund, ensuring that aspiring healthcare professionals have the financial support to pursue their dreams.
